Multiple Drug Resistant Enterobacter Agglomerans and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Causing Conjunctivitis in Swamp Buffaloes in Nagaland

Conjunctivitis (Pink eye) is often infectious and caused by either bacterial or viral infections. Ampicillin, gentamicin, nitrofurantoin and cephalexin resistant Enterobacter agglomerans and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were isolated from two cases of acute conjunctivitis in swamp buffaloes in Nagaland,. Treatment with tetracycline eye drop resulted in cure within three days. Isolation of multiple drug resistant (MDR) strains from swamp buffaloes, never exposed earlier for antimicrobials, is of significance in understanding spread of MDR strains.
